Topic: Roof bars or roofrack?

I am pondering whether to put bars or a rack on the Bora, so I can collect things like ladders and other such worldly DIY items that won't fit in the boot.

The Bora doesn't have rails, so I need a full fitting system but wondered what others have, or have seen that would work well, are easy to install and aren't going to cost the earth.

Re: Roof bars or roofrack?

While I didn't have a set for the Bora, I did have some for the Jetta which is likely to have a similar system.  I have to say that I just bought the most 'cost effective' system from the bay of fleas.  As long as you respect the max carry weight (usually 75kg max) then they should be ok.  I got regular square section bars as they are more universal for bike racks or ladder systems than the aero-style (an much more expensive) bars.

Re: Roof bars or roofrack?

You could also consider fitting a towbar instead as you know people with trailers and it would increase your carrying ability which, as a new householder, may be of advantage.

Aim to please, but shoot to kill.

Re: Roof bars or roofrack?

See, towbars are good but I feel I would lose a little of the "boy racer" side of the Bora with one, as opposed to sleek rails...

Re: Roof bars or roofrack?

When was your Bora (ever) considered to be a boy racer's mobile!? (other drivers don't know it's 190bhp!) :-)

Re: Roof bars or roofrack?

How about a removable towbar - get the best of both worlds
