Topic: Web Design freeware?

I've been asked if there's any good free web design software a friends lad can use.  He wants to set up a website to help advertise his experience etc to support his job search.

Anyone know of any good software, and thinking of the next question, any good hosting sites/deals?

(fully expecting a sales pitch from Techno on the last question  default/lol )

Thanks in advance.

Aim to please, but shoot to kill.

Re: Web Design freeware?

Tis true.  All proper HTML coders learnt using notepad.

If that is too steep a learning curve for these media savvy kids today I am pretty sure that most web hosting services provide a simply DIY interface for designing pages.  Not seen what SiteHQ offer though.

Re: Web Design freeware?

there are plenty of free content management systems and blog systems that you can download for free and upload to your webspace to do the building for you... wordpress being the most obvious, but they are all a  sledgehammer to crack a  nut and if you're just designing a simple web page or two it'll take just as long to get your head round the software as it would do to get your head round the HTML instead.

www.w3schools.com  is an excelent place to start default/smile

also...   if this person needs to get a job then being able to actually build a web page is then another self-taught skill that makes them more employable default/smile

Re: Web Design freeware?

I think they're actually after a piece of software that will do the coding for them rather than using a text editor and raw coding themselves?

I agree with the last few comments, the easiest and quickest route would be to use a CMS platform like Wordpress. You can get up and running on wordpresscom with a pre-built theme already hosted for you in 15 minutes.
