The plan is to all meet up at Birchanger Services on the M11 at Stansted in order to leave at 10AM and cruise to Southend Seafront for the day.
We'll be cruising at around 55 mph so it'll be a nice easy drive and a chilled day out.
For more info please check the Splitterz Meets and Events forum and contact organiser Maadmaxxer
Last call for anyone wishing to prebook and camp with the club for the battlesbridge show on 16/17/18 May. Please check this thread http://www.splitterz.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?id=4269
and get your booking to Dave (technohippy) before 24th April!!
Well we are now half way through April, it is Bus Types this weekend for anyone that is going...
The following weekend is Big Bang, Splitterz will be in attendance there, for Club members those of you who want a camping pass then get in touch with Maadmaxxer via the website or on the forum, it looks set to be a good show, plenty going on and some racing to watch as well.
The Chelmsford meet this month was a busy one, really good to see some more people turn up, had a good selection of vehicles in the car park, the Club really made a presence there that evening, lets hope the same happens again next month!!
The Cambridge meet this monfh turned into a bit of a cruise as we looked around for a new venue to replace the current one, so if you turned up and found there was no one there, then we apologise!! But please do come again next month to the Lion and Lamb as we are still there for the time being...
Another meet to go still this month, the Bishop Stortford meet at the Nags Head, so lets get a good turn out and enjoy what feels like a very promising start to another show season!!
Splitterz again had a good turn out for this show, a good selection of vans and beetles, which obviously impressed the judges as we won Best Club Display for the third year in a row!!

[pictured: Maadmaxxer (left) and Slammedresto (right and down a bit) holding the Trophy]
The day was beautiful for the most part, a spattering of hail made the autojumblers hide any paper items they had for sale to save them from the tiny ice cubes from above... this also prompted some people to leave, but when the clouds passed the sun shone again and the day continued.
There were 3 debuts in the Splitterz line up this year, Technohippy's reconversion back into a bay panel van made its appearance, and much to his annoyance loads of people loved the colour. Slammedresto displayed his freshly registered recent US import, again this van looked really good out in the sun, this van is very low and looks 'right'. Maadmaxxer debuted his bug, with fresh paint it attracted a lot of attention and received some nice comments (it was also in the running for best of show but lost out to a really cool blue bug)

We would just like to thank Neil and Debbie and their team for putting in the time and effort to organise another great one day show, they were so laid back and seemed to enjoy the show as much as the show goers... and also good luck to Neil with his new job, we hope you will still find the time pop into the forum every now and again to say hi!!
The next few weeks sees the two most important of our more local shows which are always well supported by club members.

Please let us know via the forum if you;re attending and wish to be with the club camping and display areas.
The season opener for many of us that didn't brave the snow of the Pod at Easter, Volksworld Show didn't disappoint on the grim weather side of things for us either on the Friday. The journey up was delayed when part of the undercarriage failed on Maadmaxxer's Red Arrow, and after a lucky escape for both Alex and the car, a journey home on a relay truck and a second mad dash attempt Alex did finally make it to the show in his newbie. BarkyD also had a relay truck encounter on the way - the M25 and Dolly2 just don't get on.
For the rest of us the cruise finally left Thurrock services about 3pm as we waited for a break in the weather for DrasticBeetle to drive in. The morning storm had left her and her car rather soaked. On arrival and after the initial fight with awnings and tents in the wind and rain, the traditional evening can-emptying marathon began.
The show itself was the usual high quality highly finished display you'd expect with much more of a leaning towards vans this year I'm pleased to say. The weather improved through saturday and sunday day times at least and much fun was had by all.
Particular commendation for silliness goes to gingerbob and hearnay for stealing benny's car and hiding it half way round the racecourse and then denying all knowledge quite convincingly for a couple of hours :-)
Ok, so with Dub Freeze under our belt, of which some of you splitterz attended, it is safe to say that Winter is almost over..... Yippeeeeee!!
In a couple of weeks it is Easter Thunderball (21st - 24th), and the following week it is Volksworld show (29th - 30th).
If you don't want to attend Thunderball for whatever reason then there is a camp being organised (Meets and Events Section of the Forum) for the club to get together at the beginning of the season, so get your dubs ready, serviced and MOT'd (if necessary) as summer is nearly upon us!!
So get to your local meets and chat with your fellow members and find out who is going to be at which shows, convoys and the like can also be arranged, just prompt your meet host or feel free to organise one via the Meets and Events Section of the Forum...
Roll on Summer Show Season!!
(an excited) MMX
The Splitterz Christmas Bash for 2007 was held at the Wheatsheaf in Duxford, the landlord was amazing, really friendly and accomodating and i would like to say a big thank you to him and to Saffron Flowers for liaising with him and sorting the food.
I got the feeling everyone who turned up enjoyed themselves, there was a really nice family vibe about the place and a lot of laughs were had by all.
I am looking forward to 2008, as i am sure many of you are, the christmas party for me is the end of the year as far as splitterz goes (ie events etc) and i am looking forward to more camping in 2008 and BBQ's and the like, lets all make an effort to make this a fantastic year, better than the last...
Here's to another fun filled year...... i hope your ready!!
MMX
The weekend of the 15th and 16th of September was thankfully blessed with glorious weather in pleasant contrast to the downpours of the June trip. Some took the opportunity to make a full weekend of it heading to site on the Friday evening, the majority collected at the now traditional Trumpington meeting point on the Saturday lunchtime for the short cruise to the campsite.
Other than a slight diversion round an orchard on the way in we soon all gathered on the green and pleasant land and manged to successfully blot it with assorted campers and dome tents.

Fun and games insued including a strange Scandanavian game played with something akin to a bag of firewood and some catapault and waterbomb fun enjoyed equally by all the kids and the bigger kids :-)

The drinks flowed and a beautiful day (had to get a levellers reference in there somewhere) passed through an evening BBQ where as usual we all brought far too much to eat and into the night's camp fire with music, fire poi and of course marshmallows.
Slowly people drifted off to bed content, leaving a small core of people who carried on until 4am accompanied by a wide range of ecclectic music and fairy lights from Drunknmonkey's bus.

The crowning glory of a well organised weekend with every detail attended to was the short walk at 10am to the on site cafe for full english and a good laugh about the events of the night before.
It just falls on me now to thank Jo and Chris for their organisational efforts and everyone that came along for making it such a great weekend. I think we are all looking forward to more of the same into the new year and beyond.
Although Bury Lodge is a lovely location I feel that a pub atmosphere would be more appropriate for the Stansted meet. It will be a bit easier on the wallet and pub grub will be available too! :-D
So....as of NOW the Stansted meet has moved back to the Nag's Head pub in bishops stortford. For those of you who've never been to this pub its really easy to find. From the M11 J8 take the exit off the roundabout signposted Bishops Stortford A120. Then take first exit at next roundabout and 2nd exit at the one after that and you will come to the pub on your left.
The meet will still be held on the last Thursday of every month, so the first meet at the new venue is next thursday 30th august. I hope as many of you as possible can make it and support the Stansted branch of splitterz !
Cheers guys, Gabi xx
Well, what a great day we all had at the annual Splitterz BBQ in galleywood, Chelmsford
Thanks to all the people who helped get this cracking event up and running. Special thanks to Alex/madmaxxer who along with myself (Gary, slammedresto) arranged the do.
The fantastic BBQ chefs Paul, Tom and Dan. There were also loads of other club members who got involved and lent a few hands.
So, over to the pics

Splitterz barbecue is next weekend!. If you're definately coming please add your name to the list here http://www.splitterz.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3363 amongst other things it helps with the burger shopping ;)

Well, its taken a weeks or so to recover from the Technohippy birthday party at battlesbridge, but we had to get there eventually.
My show started at Freeport Braintree, when i met up with Campersioux, Lordchris and Gingerbob, where we then cruised up to the A130 to meet Technohippy. It was a good cruise, until we got stuck behind a slow golf. I had a fuse blow, which stopped me flashing my lights or blowing my horn,as i was leading the convoy. So 45mph it was.
We arrived just after 1pm, to a glorious sunny day, and a field full of campers already there. Our camping plot quickly filled up with eager Splitterz from all over Essex
There was a huge increase in numbers for this show, and it quickly became apparent it was going to be much busier than last years, and a huge improvement on the weather. The sun stayed with us all weekend, which saw quite a few burnt faces and shoulders by the end of the weekend.
It was Lordchris and Technohippys birthdays, so it was deemed neccessary to have a few jars to celebrate. A few special guest turned up too. "The stuntman" chez turned up on his motorbike. And Dan and Sammie (aka rusty bouquette) turned up to say happy birthday and join the fun, all the way from Doncaster. As well as all the usual supects from the various Splitterz meets. Even Barky made it for a RTTS test drive of his new awning, and cooking delights. He made snacks at 3 am im told.

The day was long, and enjoyable. My awning proved quite popular , with both Chez and Dan playing guitar and singing, and Techno playing the bongo drum. Much alchol and other thing were consumed, and there was a great vibe all evening, it was almost a shame we had to sleep, although some of us didnt..........
Both Danny Hearnah and Techno stayed up till past 5am celebrating quietly, whilst some other people were a little noisier, so im told. As me and Lisa were sound next to daves bus, we didnt hear the noise.
The Sunday started slowly, as there were quite a few sore heads around. The sun was shining, and we were in a field of VWs, so a good start in my book.
Cars continued to come in all day, and the carparks were heaving with top VWs. The show and shine was well attended, and there were planty of trade stands to browse.
At the end of the day 3 of our member took home trophys for the show and shine, Lordchris in his Notch, and OldschoolAndy in his Westy. Leon took Best Type 1 for his Pootallic Bug.
Chris and Andy trying to look pleased with their trophys
We'd like to congratulate Southend meeting host ChloeBo on her London marathon run.
ChloeBo (with shiny medal) and eggster71
Top work with the Motorhead t-shirt there Simon ;-)
"I'm shattered! Last weekend I completed the 27th London Marathon in a time of 6hours 45 minutes and 49 seconds unfortunately about 1 1/2 hours longer than I hoped but I still did it!
It was a rather eventful morning, starting off at 7am we forgot the maps so Simon ran home to collect them, but my tidying up proved too good and he couldn'tfind them! C2C didn't let me down and I made it with plenty of time to spare to Limehouse and changed onto the DLR to make my way to Greenwich - this is where it all went wrong. At Mudchute the DLR hit the platform and apparently derailed, so a trainload of runners and supporters started walking from Muchute under the Greenwich Foot Tunnel to the start area.
I applied my Vaseline - if you don't know why you don't want to TRUST ME and made my way to pen 8 and the start line. I crossed the start at about 9.50 not bad going really andonto the course itself.
The first few miles flew by ehile everything was sinking in - the crowds cheering everyone on and calling out your name and the bands playing along he route geeing everyone up. Lying in wait at mile 7 was Simon, then Red Leader (Andy) and Volks-Widow (Amanda) in the Cutty Sark area who all proved a fabulous source of support. Unfortunately I re-injured my ankle at about mile 9 or 10 but I couldn't give up knowing that everyone had been so generous in supporting me and my charity. Had I known then that Fiona (my shy and retiring sister ;) ) was lying in wait at mile 13 to scream her head off across hundreds of people I might have changed my mind. Of course I'm joking, Fiona's voice along with mum and dads really spurred me on epecially when I saw them again at mile 22, and with Simon, Amanda and Andy at mile 25 I knew i had to finish running - so I did!
Boy do I hurt! Last night, Sunday, I could hardly move which I'm pleased to say has eased but today (Monday) I'm having difficulties walking and probably tomorrow too! My ankle is a tad swollen and my calf muscles sore but I got my medal and this whole experience was one I can happily say I can cross off my Things to Do Before I'm 25 list - next up Slobbing-out-on-the-Sofa-for-a-week-a-thon.
Thank you all for your support and words and generosity and don't worry I'm not doing that again EVEN for a beautiful bit of shiny!
My justgiving page is gonna stay open until the 22nd June so if you would still like to sponsor me feel free.

See you all soon
Love

Well the day started well, It was warm and sunny.I arrived at my scheduled meeting place 15 mins late, to be met at the services garage by Dave, and then we drove to meet the assembled rabble in the carpark. I was expecting a couple of vehicles, but in the end we had a good 10 to cruise down to the show. This included dave, barry, myself,Big gary, Emma, Alex, Mike, Lord Chris and a few others.

We headed off just before 9 for the short drive to the show, led by our pace maker Big Gary, in the Volkswagen Vectra(honourary name for the day.....lol), as he seemed to be the only one who could remember the way.
We quickly lined up along the the racetrack, and then stopped for coffee, before the real work of getting an organised lineup began, then it was a case of relaxing in the hot sun and enjoying the day.
We had a huge turnout of buses, including Mike,Taffy,Grazy and Martay from earlybay.com, who were very impressed with splitterz, and may join us again as they enjoyed it so much. As well as buses we also had a good display of beetles and a couple of notches too, and of course simon and chloes Baja Bug.

It was also a first time splitters show for birthday girl campersioux, and happyhippy(emma), hopefully we will see more of the newbies in the future.
The aftenoon went well as the sun continued to shine, and beer and cider continued to flow for several splitterz, appart from barry, who of course only drank tea(honest mrs cocacola)

The show had a good turnout, and was a lot busier than last year, with more trade stands, clubs and visitors than last year, There was a great selection of quality cars on show, although several people think the black oval was robbed......
For the second year running, Splitterz took home the coveted prize of "Best Club Display", which spawned numerous hubcap collection jokes, never to be repeated (until we collect no. 3 next year...lol). Chloes quickly organised us for a photocall, along with our youngest splitter of the day

The show carried on right into the evening, as the weather stayed with us. After several meals of noodles, curry, fry ups etc were eaten several of us sat round uncle colins bus(sat in the clouds), and talked rubbish for a while, before watching the evenings entertainment. First off we had lewis and his flaming Poi Sticks, followed by the official entertainment of a live Jazz Band. Much beer and cider was then consumed b4 the evening came to an end.
Unfortunatly i left in the late evening, but from all accounts there were some sore heads, and sunburnt backs come moring.
So looking forward to Elemental VW Year 3
hope you all make it
Gary ( Slammedresto)
Yep its Splitterz 100th meet , where better for it to land than where it started , So get down to The Horse and Groom , Galleywood for this historic meet and become a part of Splitterz history , a club meet that started in Chelmsford , then spreading to Stansted ,then Southend and Cambridge all contributing to this 100 meet Milestone lets try and make it a bit special

Happy New Year to all Splitterz and all our friends at all the other local clubs and spread across the Internet.
We wish you all the best in 2007 and look forward to seeing you at meets and shows throughout the year in this our fourth year as a club.
The Chelmsford meet this January is a particularly special occasion as we will be saying farewell to long serving Splitterz regular PEACHY.
He, Mrs PEACHY and the Peachettes are off to New Zealand on the 8th February so the Chelmsford Janaury meet serves as an opportunity for members to have a drink with the old punk before he goes.
PEACHY has been coming to Splitterz since we first started and is in fact credited as far as I can remember with being the first person to yell SPLITTERZ! at a well-known pub in Maldon when he heard about the first meet and has been one of the real characters of the club over the last three years. We wish you and the family all the best for the future and good luck setting up Splitterz NZ.
TH.
