Just wanted to say thank you to all those who turned up again this year, and congratulations to Spooky Paul for winning 'Best of BBQ' with his beetle!
The weather was again on our side and the day went off without a problem thanks to Technohippy, Barky, Gee & Family, Slammedresto and GnG making the effort to get things sorted.
Hopefully we will see some of you at one of our meets in Bishop Stortford, Chelmsford or Cambridge!
There is also the possibility of a mystery tour with camping in October in the pipeline, check out the forum if your intrigued to find out some more!!

It's that time of year again!
Yes the Splitterz BBQ is rapidly approaching, although we have been keeping it a secret!
The BBQ will be held on Sunday 2nd August 2009 from about 1pm at the Horse and Groom in Galleywood, Chelmsford (Click Here for a Location Map)
All sausages and burgers cooked on the BBQ will be £1
Drinks are available inside the pub.
There will be a show and shine and a raffle.
This is a nicely situated little gathering that the whole family will enjoy, the kids are safe to run around as cars haven't actually reached this part of galleywood yet, they still use the horse and cart!
We look forward to seeing you there!
Splitterz VW & Air-Cooled Club.

Well what can i say, but thank you to all those of you who gave up your Sunday to come and enjoy the BBQ, it was a great day and many people seemed to enjoy themselves.
Congratulations to all those of you who won a Trophy on the day, made by Danny of Dubz-by-Dan.
Thank you to all those of you who helped on the day, namely Gee for getting stuck in with the BBQ, without folks cooking, the BBQ would have failed!!
Thanks also to GnG for organising the raffle, it went down a storm!!
I would like to do more of a report but to be honest i didn't see all that much of everything on the day as i was running around most of the time!! however i understand that we had over 100 volkswagens parked up on the green, 33 people paid to enter the show and shine, but i reckon there were a few more as organisation for payment went out of the window at one point lol.
And lastly thank you to all of you for not dropping litter, all that was found was a couple of pint glasses in the long grass, and a bit of litter that was probably there before we arrived.
Lets see if there will be a next year!!

So its on Sunday!!!!!!!
Starts at 2pm till we get kicked out
Please approach the pub from The Eagle end rather than the Running Mare end as this will help ease folk into the parking area etc
Show and Shine will be £2 on the day for as many cars as we can fit in, Top 10 cars on display and a BEST OF BBQ award, unfortunately no class awards, however you will get a hand made trophy, made by our sponsor Dubz-by-Dan
Raffle - Star Prize is a Free service for a VW by our sponsor Dubz-by-Dan (www.dubz-by-dan.co.uk)
All BBQ Food - £1 per burger / veggie burger / sausage / veggie sausage
Cake - Its Free, not many things in this world are free, but there is a moneybox on the table for any donations towards the cost of the cake, and please be sensible and leave enough for everyone
Drinks are available in the pub, please only drink beverages bought from the pub, all range of drinks available, soft and not so soft
Please remember not to block the through road, this is a public highway and if we block it the police may become involved and that won't be good for you or us.
But most of all, chill out, have a few burgers and enjoy a relaxing day in the sun.
Cheers

Its less than 2 weeks away now!!
For those of you wondering what time it all kicks off, most people will be arriving from 2pm onwards, and we will be there until the landlord closes the bar in the evening!!
If you have never been to the Horse and Groom before, please come in from the Margeretting Road end, as this will minimise the disruption to the surrounding residents AND the road isn't as likely to allow you to inspect your exhaust outlets on your heads as it rips your exhaust off your pride and joy!!
As previously said, there will be vegetarian options available, and all burgers and hot dogs will be priced at £1 each, there will be a bit of free cake on the table next to the BBQ, but this is a bit limited and there will be a donations tin at the end of the table if you fancy chipping in a quid or fifty towards the cost of the cake and a way of saying cheers for a lovely day :o)
If anyone fancies having a go at flipping burgers, then please make yourselves known, there is no rota as such, i'm just hoping a couple of people will help out, i know there is a flippant side to most of you!! :oD
Thats all from me for now, but if you do have any questions please feel free to email them to webmaster@splitterz.co.uk and i am sure that some sort of answer can be fashioned to most of them!!
see you there!!

Hi all i'm Barry not seen that often i'm kept locked in the splitterz tower, you could call me 'backstage staff' if you like but once a year the splitterz robot lets me out.
The last 2 years it was the stansted show but this year it was battlesbridge and what a show friday night was calm weather nice fire pit interesting chat. Saturday started quite nice in the early hours but by the time most people were up it rained and rained all day but still thanks to a great group of splitterz people it wasn't a total wash out saturday night can be summed up by three words 1)FIRE 2)DRINK 3)SOCKS.
As the rain stopped and the wood burnt much drink was consummed and information swapped while socks and feet were dried over the BBQ
Sunday morning was cold but sunny which came as a welcome releif the show finally got the attention it deserved with plenty of day vistors turning out in the sun some great cars too and just as we waited for technohippy to find out if he had won the 'best black headlight ringed panel van which was once a camper owned by a hippy' class, one of the excitable show staff came over and handed me a blue box and said welldone and inside was ............

................... BEST CLUB STAND a great way to finish off a weekend which was as random as they come in both chat and weather .
Just to finish off it's great for me to meet some more club members and it's even better now i've met you and i'm locked up back in the splitterz tower.
Barry (ALWAYS COCA-COLA)
The plan is to all meet up at Birchanger Services on the M11 at Stansted in order to leave at 10AM and cruise to Southend Seafront for the day.
We'll be cruising at around 55 mph so it'll be a nice easy drive and a chilled day out.
For more info please check the Splitterz Meets and Events forum and contact organiser Maadmaxxer
Last call for anyone wishing to prebook and camp with the club for the battlesbridge show on 16/17/18 May. Please check this thread http://www.splitterz.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?id=4269
and get your booking to Dave (technohippy) before 24th April!!
Well we are now half way through April, it is Bus Types this weekend for anyone that is going...
The following weekend is Big Bang, Splitterz will be in attendance there, for Club members those of you who want a camping pass then get in touch with Maadmaxxer via the website or on the forum, it looks set to be a good show, plenty going on and some racing to watch as well.
The Chelmsford meet this month was a busy one, really good to see some more people turn up, had a good selection of vehicles in the car park, the Club really made a presence there that evening, lets hope the same happens again next month!!
The Cambridge meet this monfh turned into a bit of a cruise as we looked around for a new venue to replace the current one, so if you turned up and found there was no one there, then we apologise!! But please do come again next month to the Lion and Lamb as we are still there for the time being...
Another meet to go still this month, the Bishop Stortford meet at the Nags Head, so lets get a good turn out and enjoy what feels like a very promising start to another show season!!
Splitterz again had a good turn out for this show, a good selection of vans and beetles, which obviously impressed the judges as we won Best Club Display for the third year in a row!!

[pictured: Maadmaxxer (left) and Slammedresto (right and down a bit) holding the Trophy]
The day was beautiful for the most part, a spattering of hail made the autojumblers hide any paper items they had for sale to save them from the tiny ice cubes from above... this also prompted some people to leave, but when the clouds passed the sun shone again and the day continued.
There were 3 debuts in the Splitterz line up this year, Technohippy's reconversion back into a bay panel van made its appearance, and much to his annoyance loads of people loved the colour. Slammedresto displayed his freshly registered recent US import, again this van looked really good out in the sun, this van is very low and looks 'right'. Maadmaxxer debuted his bug, with fresh paint it attracted a lot of attention and received some nice comments (it was also in the running for best of show but lost out to a really cool blue bug)

We would just like to thank Neil and Debbie and their team for putting in the time and effort to organise another great one day show, they were so laid back and seemed to enjoy the show as much as the show goers... and also good luck to Neil with his new job, we hope you will still find the time pop into the forum every now and again to say hi!!
The next few weeks sees the two most important of our more local shows which are always well supported by club members.

http://www.splitterz.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?id=4269
Please let us know via the forum if you;re attending and wish to be with the club camping and display areas.
The season opener for many of us that didn't brave the snow of the Pod at Easter, Volksworld Show didn't disappoint on the grim weather side of things for us either on the Friday. The journey up was delayed when part of the undercarriage failed on Maadmaxxer's Red Arrow, and after a lucky escape for both Alex and the car, a journey home on a relay truck and a second mad dash attempt Alex did finally make it to the show in his newbie. BarkyD also had a relay truck encounter on the way - the M25 and Dolly2 just don't get on.
For the rest of us the cruise finally left Thurrock services about 3pm as we waited for a break in the weather for DrasticBeetle to drive in. The morning storm had left her and her car rather soaked. On arrival and after the initial fight with awnings and tents in the wind and rain, the traditional evening can-emptying marathon began.
The show itself was the usual high quality highly finished display you'd expect with much more of a leaning towards vans this year I'm pleased to say. The weather improved through saturday and sunday day times at least and much fun was had by all.
Particular commendation for silliness goes to gingerbob and hearnay for stealing benny's car and hiding it half way round the racecourse and then denying all knowledge quite convincingly for a couple of hours :-)
Ok, so with Dub Freeze under our belt, of which some of you splitterz attended, it is safe to say that Winter is almost over..... Yippeeeeee!!
In a couple of weeks it is Easter Thunderball (21st - 24th), and the following week it is Volksworld show (29th - 30th).
If you don't want to attend Thunderball for whatever reason then there is a camp being organised (Meets and Events Section of the Forum) for the club to get together at the beginning of the season, so get your dubs ready, serviced and MOT'd (if necessary) as summer is nearly upon us!!
So get to your local meets and chat with your fellow members and find out who is going to be at which shows, convoys and the like can also be arranged, just prompt your meet host or feel free to organise one via the Meets and Events Section of the Forum...
Roll on Summer Show Season!!
