Splitterz VW and Aircooled club started as an informal meet in Chelmsford, Essex in January 2004 and rapidly became very popular. In 2005 a second meet was added near Stansted Airport on the Herts border and 2006 has seen expansion to six meets adding Southend-on-sea, Enfield in North London as well as Cambridge and Bedfordshire. The club remains informal, family-friendly and free to join. Anything aircooled and anything at all VW welcome

How to Join Splitterz Club

There is no fee to join, there isn't even really any criteria other than a love of air-cooled cars and classic volkswagens. You don't need to turn up in your cherished car, if it isn't on the road at the moment we really don't mind if you turn up in your daily driver isntead. Lets face it if you're car is broken you NEED to come to a club meeting to get some help fixing it!

Once you've turned up a few times you'll get a membership card that gives you discounts at some parts and service places. Details below:

Membership Cards

BarkyD is the man to see to get a membership card. Working on the principle of if you know who he is you must have turned up enough times to ask him for a card. Check our forum for info on who'll give you a discount if you wave your card at them : )

Splitterz VW Club Forum

Our Club Forum

By popular request..... a Splitterz club forum....

Click here - here it is >>>>>>>>>>

Its not as fully featured as the VZi one but then it doesn't cost anything either :D This forum is the hub of Splitterz online community and much of the organisation of club events and meetings is done on the forum. It is both a place to arrange things and a place to chat about anything and everything.

Members and Their Rides

The rides galleries are here >>>

We're slowly sorting out profile pages of each of the members and their rides. As the club now has two venues and the membership is increasing at a mad rate we figured it would be a good idea for the regulars to have a page about themselves and the stuff they drive so everyone knows at least who all the big noises are in the club and so that any new people turning up to a meet will at least recognise people from here rather than just ending up in a car park of strange faces wondering who to talk to.

Calling all members

... and people who are members but haven't yet got their name on the menu on the left of this page.

Send us your pics and info so we can stick 'em on the site. Contact Danny Hearnah either through the forum or at a meet and he'll put your page together for you.

Contact Us

On these pages you'll find pictures of the people and their cars (and buses) as well as a little bit of info about each one as well. We've made these pages for the benefit of all, especially newcomers to the meets who may want to know what some of us look like, especially if you found us via one of the VW forums. About the Club

Splitterz Air-Cooled Club is one of the newer clubs on the scene and started as an informal meet in Chelmsford, Essex as the result of a discussion thread on the largest online VW forum www.volkszone.co.uk/VZi

The first meeting was held in something approaching a monsoon on 15th January 2004 and was very well attended in spite of the weather.

As 2004 progressed Splitterz continued to meet in larger and larger numbers at the Army and Navy pub in Chelmsford chosen partly for its huge car park and partly for its prime location on one of the major junctions in the county town of Essex which served as good exposure for the fledgling club until, on the 1st anniversary meet the club was given the news that the pub was to close within a month. A few of the long-term Splitterz took this as an excuse to take a tour of some pubs and sample some beer and found a new location at the Horse and Groom pub on Galleywood Common Chelmsford and continues to meet there on the second Thursday of every month in ever-increasing numbers much to the delight of the hugely supportive Landlord.

The Chelmsford meets had attracted regulars from the Essex Hertfordshire border. A second thread on the Volkszone forum gave birth to a second Splitterz meet at the Nag's Head, Bishop's Stortford in Hertfordshire on the last Thursday of every month. The first meet was on the 24th February 2005 and in true Splitterz style the inaugural meet had its fair share of adverse weather, snow in fact! Even the blizzard on the M11 didn't stop a cruise from Chelmsford to the new meet, and cruises continue to be organised between the two meets every month. The Bishop's Stortford meet outgrew its location fairly quickly and moved to the Bury Lodge Hotel near Stansted Airport in September 2005 and continues to meet in ever increasing numbers. Splitterz truly is one club in two places, both meets always have a good turn out of air-cooled and water-cooled cars of all ages and in all conditions.

The club's website is very popular and a key part of the organisational aspect of Splitterz attracting over 500 unique visitors a month. The club's regulars are spread far and wide across both many counties and the website is the best way to stay in touch between meets and also use the club forum to suggest meet ups and cruises to shows and to organise club camping at events.

The whole Splitterz set up is very informal; there is no committee and no joining fee. A handful of long-term regulars run the website and make sure members get plenty of flyers to hand out to advertise the club and the regulars all spread the word.

Membership of Splitterz is just a case of turning up to a few meets and you'll get given a number and a card that gets discounts at parts retailers and on classic car insurance.
