Splitterz meets 2nd thursday every month

Alex - Forum ID: Maadmaxxer. Location: Colchester.

In brief: Hi my name is Alex, I have been into VW’s since I bought ‘THE TANK’ 3 years ago. I didn’t really have much interest in the scene at first, until other people in Beetles and Buses started waving and I was intrigued as to this random waving from other people!!

The more I looked, the more I found, now I attend a couple or three shows a year and am really getting into the swing of it all now. I am relatively new to Splitterz, but many people, especially Hearnay, have made me feel welcome. At the moment I am training to be a Quantity Surveyor and I hope that in the future it will pay me enough to keep THE TANK in working order AND still have enough left over to live off, at the moment I am struggling with both of these!!

Model

1969 1500 bug

Engine

THE TANK has recently just been given a new heart, and a sweet sounding little beast it is too. A new hand built 1641cc, with twin EMPI HPMX Carbs, 044 heads and Engle 110 cam, complemented with a full flow oil system should keep this little car chugging down the road more than happily, I am just itching to get it out of the ‘running in’ stage and see what this baby can do!!

Interior

and the interior is a Bernard Newbury creation, all very nice indeed. There have been a few modifications to bring it a little more up to date, which include a Mini Disc Player, Bass Box, 6 Tweeters and a CB Radio (Not quite a modern invention but has one none the less!!).

Exterior

The rear end has been lowered slightly and the front end looks like a monster truck.

Future

The future plans for THE TANK are to have a GT gearbox shipped in from South Africa installed, lower the front end, have the alloys refurbished, fit bigger walled tyres to the rear and upgrade the headlights.

So all in all, next year will be pretty busy, I hope to get to as many of the Chelmsford meets as possible, as being a Colchester Lad means that is the closest, although Saaaarrrrffffend and Cambridge are also fairly close, but then so is Bishop Stortford….AAAHHHH the choices are endless!! Lets just focus on one and then see about the rest!!

Don’t be afraid to say hello, See you all soon!!

THE TANK!
